October is busy month for preteen ministry! We have established a routine with our Sunday mornings and we’re settled into our small groups. That means it’s time to shake things up a bit! The first two weekends of October were packed with tons of events to start working on our heart connections between leaders and students.
Two weeks ago, we hosted Wacky Tacky Night.
Preteens showed up in some of the craziest outfits I think I’ve ever seen. We blew through 40 pizzas and 125 cans of soda. We had a Tacky Fashion show. We played some crazy games. But best of all, we made some huge connections with students. The crazy fun that we had that night opens the line of communication and lends us credibility for the message that we present on Sundays.
Last week, I talked about how our ministry is learning to let go of the bike and unleash preteens to take action with their faith. In that post, I mentioned our service project with Miracle League of Arkansas. Miracle League is an opportunity for kids diagnosed with disabilities to participate and enjoy the game of baseball. AJ Burnett (New York Yankees) and Cliff Lee (Philadelphia Phillies) are two of the major league players who support and promote the Miracle League here in Little Rock. Needless to say, we were excited to participate as “buddies.”
The smiles of this picture tell the story of the day. It was an amazing time. At one point, I looked out on the field and saw a group of our girls sitting in a circle with a group of Miracle League players just chatting and laughing. They weren’t really into the game of baseball, but they were serving none the less! It was an awesome experience for our preteens that we will definitely repeat.
This week is going to be a slower week in front of the curtain, but behind the scenes there is a lot going on. I’m praying for God’s wisdom and clarity as we plan and dream about the future of preteen ministry.
